Earl Washington: Unlimited Expressions of Life

The Artists in Bloom Festival and the FAMU Foster-Tanner Fine Arts Gallery is pleased to announce our upcoming art exhibition, "Earl Washington: Unlimited Expressions of Life." "Unlimited Expressions of Life" features over sixty works of art by contemporary artist Earl D. Washington. Washington is primarily a ceramicist but works in a wide range of mediums, including photography, calligraphy, and collage. His adventurous assortment of mediums and expansive amount of work over the course three decades will be on view at the Foster-Tanner Fine Arts Gallery from February 25 until March 29.

Washington was born and raised in Tallahassee, Florida and introduced to ceramics as early as 10 years old. His ceramics utilize the raku firing method, more specifically utilizing the Afro-Raku style, which combines Eastern ceramic processes with African and African American traditions. He credits his art skills to the many amazing instructors he met as a student at Florida A&M University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in fine arts. Washington gained a greater knowledge of various ceramic traditions and styles, including Afro-Raku, during his mentorship from notable FAMU art professors and ceramists, Yvonne and Curtis Tucker. For more than 50 years, he continues to receive inspiration from viewers of his artwork. Washington’s love for creativity gives him the passion to continue making art, and we are excited to present his body of work with our visitors this spring exhibition season.
