Originally from the UK, 'Little' Stevie Wright, a skinny young kid settled in the outer suburbs of early 60's Sydney, found himself at the point of the pointiest end of the burgeoning teenage music scene as lead singer in Australia's first truly international rock export 'the Easybeats'.
From 1965 - 1969, 'easy-fever' swept the nation with Stevie singing & co-writing several of a plethora of classic tunes including 'Sorry', 'I'll Make You Happy', 'She's So Fine' and the seminal 'Friday On My Mind', a rock radio staple to this day. He was everywhere filling school-girl fantasies & record company coffers along the way.
Solo hit albums in the early 70's, 'Hard Road' and 'Black-Eyed Bruiser' and the anthemic track 'Evie - parts 1,2 & 3' + a critically & publically acclaimed role as Simon Zealotes in the 1973 touring production of Jesus Christ Superstar should have catapulted Stevie to the forefront of Australia's entertainment luminaries for decades to come…but it didn't.
Nearly everyone is aware that Stevie found himself in a literal fight for his life with his own demons, initially fuelled by a diet of drink & drugs so rife during those heady years. Maybe fame didn't sit so easily with our pop-star 'hero' or maybe he just wasn't equipped to handle the three-ring circus his life became.
Much has been written & said about his life, not always with his blessing or even knowledge. Now it's time for Stevie to fill in the gaps, in his own words & in his own way. There's no-one 'pulling the strings', just Stevie sitting on a stage telling you what went down, how he got through it and where he is today - clean, sober & happy.
Join Stevie for a good old-fashioned night out in comfy theatre surroundings as you take this remarkable journey from fame & fortune, to hell & horror & finally happiness. Illustrated with old footage & photos, it's an opportunity to spend a little personal time with Australia's own 'Godfather of Rock'.
