Walking Event: Shikellamy State Park

You will drive to the start point in the Park. Northumberland County walk takes you around the State Park which was named for a famous Iroquois Chief and is located on Packers Island. The walk will take you from the island to the town of Northumberland and by the Priestley House that was built in 1794 - he discovered oxygen and the house is open to the public for a fee. There are many historic homes and a cemetery dating to the late 1790's. There will be a 5K trail available. This trail will not go to the cemetery. The alternate trail will take you around the island, across both branches of the Susquehanna and up to the overlook which is in Union County. This part requires walking up and down a steep hill which makes the rating a 3. The view is worth it. This trail will not qualify for Museum or Cemetery Stroll.
