Celebrating 200 Years of Pride & Prejudice

Celebrate 200 years of Pride and Prejudice by joining us for a screening of the 2005 film, followed by special guest speaker Margaret Sullivan. Pride and Prejudice is a novel by Jane Austen, first published in 1813. Though the story is set at the turn of the 19th century, it retains a fascination for modern readers. Continuing near the top of lists of 'most loved books,' it has become one of the most popular novels in English literature and receives considerable attention from literary scholars. Modern interest in the book has resulted in a number of dramatic adaptations and an abundance of novels and stories imitating Austen's memorable characters or themes. To date, the book has sold some 20 million copies worldwide.

The 2005 film stars Keira Knightley and Mathew MacFayden. Following the film, share a cup of tea and visit with Ms. Sullivan, author of The Jane Austen Handbook and editrix of Austenblog.com, and fellow "Janeites." Ms Sullivan's books, as well as all things Pride and Prejudice (books and DVDs), will be available for purchase. Ms. Sullivan's appearance is made possible by The Regency Society of Virginia.
