About Science Museum of Minnesota / Omnitheater in Minneapolis / Saint Paul
Description
The Science Museum of Minnesota's trademark dinosaurs and hands-on exhibits, along with the convertible dome Omnitheater and 3D Cinema, make it a world-class destination for high-tech entertainment and state-of-the-art science experiences.
- Collections Gallery: This gallery is one of the highlights of the Science Museum. The new museum's larger area makes it possible to showcase many artifacts that have previously been kept in storage, as well as to provide more context for favorite artifacts and icons. The Collections Gallery invites you to explore why and how museums collect the things they collect.
- Dinosaurs and Fossils Gallery: You'll have an unparalleled opportunity to experience the Science Museum's world-class collections of prehistoric specimens! The Dinosaurs and Fossils Gallery is twice as large as the former museum's dinosaur area, and it features one of the world's four complete mounted Triceratops.
- Experiment Gallery: This gallery presents hands-on exhibits that invite you to learn through experimenting with phenomena and concepts in the physical sciences and mathematics.
- Human Body Gallery: Learn all about what makes us human and what keeps us alive. Don a lab coat and examine your cheek cells under a microscope in the Cell Lab, or consider the effects of the recent completion of the map of the human genetic code.
- Mississippi River Gallery: This gallery features the Charles E., an authentic Mississippi River towboat. You're encouraged to think about how your actions impact the river, what type of influence the river has on your life, and how the river ecosystem is complex and ever-changing. This gallery also boasts an exhibit about the physical and ecological impact of the 1999 blowdown in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
The Science Museum of Minnesota also hosts numerous traveling exhibits throughout the year.
