Description
A Civil War talk on Minnesota’s First Regiment. Robert Niemala will focus on the Mobile Campaign during the Civil War. In this March – April 1865 Federal campaign to capture one of the last Confederate Seaports, five of the eleven Minnesota regiments raised for the War, participated. This is the only time five regiments were in the same theater of operations. A total of 42,000 federal soldiers opposed 12,000 confederates defending Mobile. The confederates had the advantage of defending from well prepared earthworks and forts. Robert is the past president of the St. Croix Valley Civil War Round Table and has travelled extensively, visiting Civil War battle sites and parks.
