A professional musician since the age of 12, trumpeter Nicholas Payton returns to The Sheldon with a style that embraces his New Orleans upbringing, while reaching for new levels of maturity and sophistication in his performance. Payton recently toured the nation with Bill Charlap, Ravi Coltrane and Steve Wilson to celebrate the Blue Note record label's 70th anniversary, and has worked with other jazz greats including Wynton and Ellis Marsalis, Elvin Jones, and Ray Brown.
KWMU host Dennis Owsley will present a pre-concert talk, The New Orleans and St. Louis Trumpet Tradition, at 7:10 pm.
