Cooking/Serving Dinner at RMH - Park

Part of the mission at the Ronald McDonald House is to provide a "home-away-from-home" for families of seriously ill children receiving treatment at St. Louis area hospitals. An important part of this mission is to provide the families with every convenience they can. Since many have limited transportation and knowledge of the area Ronald McDonald House relies on volunteers to prepare meals for the families. Most of the families spend their time at the hospital with their children. Though all of the families are not always available to be at the house when meals are served, it is a welcome gift to return to the house and find a meal waiting for them. We can help reduce some of the incredible stress experienced by the families with something as fundamental as a home cooked meal! We will be cooking a meal to serve approximately 25-30 people. We will prepare and then serve the meal buffet style. Again, not all of the families may be present for the serving of the meal but we will wrap up uneaten portions for them to enjoy when they return to the house from the hospitals. IMPORTANT DETAILS TO KEEP IN MIND: Gershon has so graciously offered to help coordinate our cooking events with RMH so he, or myself will be posting our menu on the message board and ask that people volunteer to help bring items needed to cook for the families. This event depends on volunteers helping contribute ingredients so we can prepare our meals for the families so please make sure you check the message board and sign up to bring an item(s). We can only bring up to 10 people for this event so if you RSVP "yes" you MUST MUST attend. Kids are welcomed as long as there are enough adults to supervise the meal and ensure a respectful environment for the families as requested by RMH. **If you are brining a child, please RSVP for them as your guests so we can make sure we keep with the requested number of total volunteers and make sure there are plenty of adults to handle more challenging jobs.** Please arrive on time with any items you signed up to bring to make sure the meal is served on time!! Please note that there is more than one RMH and we volunteer at both so please verify the address listed on the event so you end up at the right place!! VERY IMPORTANT-The Ronald McDonald House is very concerned about infectious disease because so many of their children are immune suppressed. It is imperative that any member of our group who has been exposed to chicken pox (within 21 days), shingles, measles, mumps, whooping cough, or any other contagious disease (colds, flu) not put the children at risk by attending this event. If you have been ill, PLEASE update your RSVP to "no" ASAP so someone can fill your spot and feel better soon!! :)
