Documentary 'Mine' - Reuniting Pets with Owners post Hurricane Katrina at St. Helena Public Library
St. Helena Public Library
1492 Library Lane
St. Helena, CA 94574
Note:
On the first Wednesday of each month, St. Helena Public Library shows an independent or foreign film that has been featured in a film festival but has not yet been widely released in theaters. January 6th: Mine (a documentary from the USA)
After Hurricane Katrina, thousands of rescued pets were adopted by families all over the country. Mine follows New Orleans residents as they attempt the daunting task of trying to reunite with their pets, and chronicles the custody battles that ensue. Through these stories, the film examines issues of race, class, and animal welfare in the United States, showing that how we treat animals is an extension of how we view and treat each other. Hailed as âabsorbing,â âa must see,â and âOscar material,â it won the 2009 Audience Award for Best Documentary Feature at the South by Southwest Film Festival. In English. Admission is free; donations to We Care Animal Rescue are welcomed.
