Description
The St. Peters Chamber of Commerce welcomes former St. Louis Cardinals Pitcher, Rick Horton, to speak at the 2009 Community Prayer Breakfast that will be held on Friday, November 13th from 7:30a.m. – 9:00a.m. at Church of the Shepherd, located at 1601 Woodstone Drive in St. Charles.
This year’s breakfast titled, “A Time for Giving Thanks” will focus on the idea that whatever your life experiences may be, everything can turn around for the best and become a positive experience in your life.
Starting the 2009 season, Rick Horton is in his 6th year as a Cardinal TV broadcaster as he partners with KSDK Channel 5’s Jay Randolph. Rick also works as the baseball analyst for the Fox Sports Midwest Cardinals’ baseball post game show.
Rick Horton saw the end of Busch Stadium, former home of the St. Louis Cardinals, from the KPLR-TV Channel 11 broadcast booth where he has been the color commentator for four seasons. He saw the inaugural season of the new Busch Stadium continuing his coverage of forty Cards games in ’06 A former Major League Baseball pitcher and World Series winning team member, Horton’s deep background on the field has made him ideal for the role of “color guy”.
He honed his skills quickly in a town whose fans have been dubbed “The Best Fans in Baseball.” Though Horton enters only his sixth full season of broadcasting Redbird games, his broadcast education began in St. Louis in 1996 when he joined “Sports Plus with Mike Bush” as a baseball analyst on NBC affiliate KSD-TV Channel 5. A year later he was sitting in for vacationing KMOX radio announcer Mike Shannon and save the 2002 season he has continued to do so. Along the way he mastered his craft through work with sports radio KFNS and Fox Sports Midwest before landing the most demanding broadcast job in baseball: filling in the gaps with interesting, informative and witty commentary about the game, the players, the managers, the umpires and every other aspect of what takes place on the baseball field.
Though best known by the public at large for his years in baseball, Horton is a man of diversity and has been the Director of the St. Louis Area Fellowship of Christian Athletes for 15 years. Additionally, Horton is a much sought-after speaker by such corporate giants as IBM, General American Life, Anheuser-Busch, Anheuser-Busch Credit Union, St. Louis Rams, the Governor’s Leadership Conference and the Vitae Caring Foundation addressing issues such as teamwork and achievement and telling entertaining stories from the game.
Rick resides in the St. Louis area with his wife, Ann and two children; Jen – 22 and Drew – 19.
The St. Peters Chamber of Commerce is an association of over 700 businesses within the community and as an organization, “We feel that it is important to take a morning away from hectic business schedules and come together in the spirit of prayer” said Kristie Freed, Communications and Events Director for the St. Peters Chamber. “All types of faiths and religions in the community are invited to participate and most send a representative to take part in the program.”
The breakfast is $20 per person in advance, $25 the week of event. Seating is very limited. Please join us for a morning of celebration and reflection. This year proceeds from the event will go directly to the CHOICES Program, a two-hour classroom seminar designed to help middle school students realize the long-term implications of the decisions they are making in school today, which the chamber facilitates in our local middle schools. Breakfast will begin at 7:00a.m, with the hour-long program beginning at 7:30a.m. Make your reservations by calling the St. Peters Chamber of Commerce office at (636) 447-3336.
