Start Point Address / Driving Directions:
7550 Reservation Dr., Springfield VA 22153. 703-866-0566. From I-66: Take Exit 55 (Fairfax Co. Pkwy/VA-7100). Drive south on VA-7100 toward Fairfax for about 10 miles until you reach a traffic signal with Reservation Rd. to the left and South Run RECenter to the right. Turn right to follow the road into the park. Park in the lot in front of the RECenter. From I-495 (Capital Beltway): From the Capital Beltway (I-495), take Exit 54A (Braddock Rd. West) and drive on Braddock Rd. for about 1.4 miles to the traffic signal at Burke Lake Rd. Turn left to drive on Burke Lake Rd. for about 3.6 miles to the traffic signal at the Fairfax Co. Pkwy (VA-7100). Turn left to drive on VA-7100 to drive for 2 miles until you reach a traffic signal with Reservation Rd. to the left and South Run RECenter to the right. Turn right to follow the road into the park and park in the lot in front of the RECenter. Event Description: Start Point open Mon-Fri 7am-9pm; Sat 7am-6pm; Sun 8am-8pm. Call ahead to make sure the start point is open on holidays or during inclement weather. This is an out-and-back trail that follows somewhat hilly but mostly shaded paved paths. The trail passes through the woods along small streams and goes three-quarters of the way around Lake Mercer before returning to the start/finish point. The trail is rated 2 and is a pretty walk in the woods, especially during the spring and fall. Restrooms and water are available only at the Start Point.
