Event details: Sylvia
Description
The show is about a middle-aged man named Greg who finds a precocious pooch named Sylvia in the park. He is taken by her precious nature and personality, but when Greg brings his new found friend home to the empty nest he shares with Kate, the reception isn’t as warm and welcoming. Sylvia, who is played by a human, becomes the unlikely other woman in the marriage, and this funny story takes a serious look at a couple coming to terms with a change in family dynamics.
The Springfield production features Gina DeCroix as Sylvia, John McAdams as Greg, Aasne Vigesaa as Kate and Troy Thomas-Pfaffe as all of the other characters. The show is directed by Kevin Purcell who most recently directed the Over the Moon productions of “Wit” at the Hoogland Center for the Arts and “Shakespeare Shorts” at New Salem’s Theater in the Park.
The November 6 event will serve as a gala benefit for the Animal Protective League with a special ticket price of $65 per person or $125 per couple. The gala event will also feature a silent auction, plus drinks and hors d’oeuvres. The gala begins at 6:30 p.m. and the show will begin at 8 p.m.
Additional performances will be held on November 7, 13 and 14 shows at 8 p.m. The November 8 and 15 shows will be held at 2 p.m.
Ticket prices for all other “Sylvia” performances will be $16 for adults and $15 for children and seniors.
“Sylvia” was written by A. R. Gurney and was first presented in 1995 at the Manhattan Theatre Club with a cast including Sarah Jessica Parker and Blyth Danner among others.
