Description
Snuffy Jenkins Festival Reunion

Rutherford County Arts Council and Isothermal Community College have partnered to revive the famous Snuffy Jenkins Festival, beginning with the Snuffy Jenkins Festival Reunion, to be held on the Isothermal Community College campus. Bluegrass and old-time music will be featured in the festival honoring the innovative banjo player, comedian, and Rutherford County native, Snuffy Jenkins. This first event will be headlined by Doc Watson and David Holt, and NC Banjo legend Raymond Fairchild. Phil and Gaye Johnson and many other regional and local favorites will also perform during the day-long celebration. The festival will also feature historical talks regarding Snuffy Jenkins’ life and significance in local and national music history, as well as discussions about Snuffy’s fellow pioneers in bluegrass and traditional music. Special guests and honorees will include festival founder Ben Humphries and Snuffy’s son, Toby Jenkins. Food and craft vendors will be on hand, and an open jam area will be provided for musicians who want to play as well as listen.

Doc Watson “Hills of Home” with David Holt will close the festival. This performance will begin at 7:30 pm and be located in the Foundation auditorium. For more than three decades, Doc Watson has been America’s most renowned and influential folk guitar stylist – a living legend in acoustic music. Four-time Grammy Award winner David Holt is a musician, storyteller, historian, television host, and entertainer. Together, Doc and David won the Grammy Award for Best Traditional Folk Album with “Legacy”, on which “Hills of Home” is based.
