Event details: Harlem Gospel Choir
Description
SOPAC presents the world famous Harlem Gospel Choir. The choir was founded in 1986 by Allen Bailey, who had the idea to found a choir while attending a celebration in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the Cotton Club in Harlem. Through international performances, the group shares its message of love and inspiration with hundreds of thousands of people, including such luminaries as Nelson Mendella, former Pope John Paul II and President Barack Obama. Additionally, the group is a fixture of American culture, appearing alongside the rock group Gorrilaz and U2, and recently recording The Simpson’s theme song for a documentary commemorating the hit show’s 20th Anniversary.
Through its dynamic performances the choir strives to create a better understanding of African-American culture and gospel. At each performance, their songs of inspiration will touch the depths of your soul and lift your spirit. In its first performance at SOPAC, the choir brings its message of love and harmony that has inspired the world, to the local community.
