Somerville Theatre

The rich cinematic and musical history of the Somerville Theatre is still going strong with the most popular musicians, movies, and comedians in the country. Located in Somerville's picturesque Davis Square, just 20 minutes from downtown Boston, lies one of the most versatile and popular movie theaters in the country. Not only does Somerville Theatre play the latest movies, it also schedules performers like The Jonas Brothers, Norah Jones, and the John Butler Trio. The theater also presents stand-up comedy every Thursday night and the basement serves as a second location to the Museum of Bad Art.

Built in 1914, the Somerville Theatre was a part of the Hobbs Building, which held a movie theater/live stage, bowling alley, ballroom, storefronts, and a cafe. The building became a neighborhood hotspot before a multiplex came to town, and Somerville Theatre became a repertory house in 1982. The theater began showing movies again in 1990, and in 1996 the surrounding business space was renovated to allow for more space and a stage for musicians. Since that time, people from all over Somerville and the surrounding areas to see scheduled musicians, or just catch a flick.
