Ah! Perfido, Op. 65 (13’)
Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125 ‘Choral’ (65’)
The SSO’s cycle of the complete Beethoven symphonies under Lan Shui continues with the groundbreaking Ninth, a choral hymn to universal brotherhood and the first symphony by a major composer to incorporate a significant vocal contribution. Ah! Perfido proved too difficult for the soprano he engaged at the last minute in 1808, but has become a popular concert work today.
