Silver City Endurance Runs

Races: 100 K, 50 K, 30 K

Don't miss Idaho's first real 100k in the spectacular hills surrounding the historic mining town of Silver City, Idaho. On this tremendously diverse and beautiful course, the scenic vistas are unparalleled and the country is beautiful and unique. The mixture of junipers, aspens, wildflowers, evergreens, rock outcroppings, sage, and mine tailings make this run unique. A few climbs make the run challenging, but overall the courses are quite runnable, composed of 100% doubletrack ATV trails and some 4WD truck roads. 100% dirt surfaces. The race begins near Silver City (elev. ~6200′); 100k runners hit a high point at Hayden Peak (8400′). Check out the Course page for pictures of the area and course scouting reports.

Weather
We hung out in Silver City the summer of 2011 on what would be the race day. Weather was downright cool and overcast, with a snowpack remaining that prevented us from traveling all of the course on ATV (it will be fine for foot traffic). It was a late-coming spring/summer, and the same is anticipated for this year. At the elevation where most of the course runs, temps should not be extremely hot in June. However, there is a section that drops down a little lower in elevation where the terrain gets a little more "desert." There is not a lot of shade out there, but there are pockets of junipers throughout, and in the higher elevations of 6000-8000', you will find a nice smattering of tree-shaded sections. We can't promise it won't be hot - it certainly could - but if we were betting people, we would guess that race day will be temperate and pleasant, starting out very cool in the morning at race start.
