MUDBUG MADNESS TO CELEBRATE 29th ANNIVERSARY

The Mudbug Madness Festival will celebrate its 29th anniversary this Memorial Day weekend in Downtown Shreveport. The annual festival, presented by Downtown Shreveport Unlimited, will be held May 24-27, 2012, in Festival Plaza. CenterPoint Energy will return as the title sponsor for the 14th consecutive year.

Mudbug Madness #29 will feature three entertainment stages, children’s activities, Creole food, an expanded arts area featuring original paintings, carvings, jewelry and crafts, You’ll also find street performers, body painters and outrageous crawfish eating contests for the whole family.

Entertainment highlights on the MetroPCS Stage include Wayne Toups, 2-time Grammy winner Chubby Carrier, Waylon Thibodeaux, and Rockin’ Dopsie, Jr. Taking a cue from our attendees, the Swamp Stage will feature all local and regional talent who have proven themselves to be the best in Shreveport-Bossier. Visit the festival each night and hear such favorites as Bushrod Jenkins, Johnny Earthquake and the Moondogs, Super Water Sympathy, and Windstorm. The Swamp Stage will also feature music at noon on Thursday and Friday. Those entertainers include the Kings of Pleasure and the Justin Merritt Band, so take a break from the office and come to Mudbug Madness for food and fun!

Kids on the Bayou, sponsored by KSLA 12, will open at 11am all four days and will feature clowns, kids’ karaoke, singers, story-tellers, magic shows, hands-on art activities, and a giant sculpture that they can participate in making. Party Central will offer great games and face painting and will be open from 4pm until 11pm Thursday and Friday and from 11am until 11pm Saturday and Sunday.

Admission to the festival is free until 5pm Thursday and Friday, courtesy of KTAL 6. After 5pm Thursday and Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday, admission is $5.00 per person. Free shuttle service is available from Mall St. Vincent and Pierre-Bossier Mall courtesy of Citizens National Bank and Abita.
