Event details: Hal Ketchum
Description
After growing up in the verdant hills of upstate New York, Hal moved to Austin, Texas in '81 to discover he was living close to a dance hall called Gruene Hall. He fell in with a bunch of other singer-songwriters, such as Lyle Lovett, Joe Ely and Jimmie Dale Gilmore. When nothing much happened for him there he moved to Nashville where he signed a recording deal with Curb Records and made a brief appearance in the film "Heartbreak Hotel". His first CD with Curb "Past the Point of Rescue", was released in '91, and was produced by Allan Reynolds & Jim Rooney. The 1st single from the album, 'Small Town, Saturday Night' peaked at No. 2 in the Billboard charts. The next single 'I Know Where Love Lives' reached No 13, and then, 'Past The Point of Rescue' reached No 2 in early '92. The 4th single, 'Five O'Clock World' reached no 16, and Curb also released a compilation of Hal's first 4 videos entitled 'Past the Point of Rescue'. 'Sure Love' was the next album to be released and the title track got to No 3, followed by 'Hearts Are Gonna Roll', which reached No 2. Then 'Mama knows the Highway' which reached No. 8. 'Someplace Far Away' reached no 21 on the Billboard charts. Hal achieved one of his career highlights in '94, when he was inducted as the 71st Member of the Grand Ole Opry. Hal says "I didn't realise how powerful it is. The first time I played there I felt a real power, the power of heritage, of tradition, of the written word." After a severe bout with Acute Transverse Myelitis (ATM), Hal lost the use of the left side of his body for a while and had to re-learn how to play the guitar. Which he did to everyone's delight. And he has been writing songs and thrilling audiences ever since. His newest CD, 'Father Time', is one of the most musically inviting and satisfying recordings in recent memory. It's his 9th album in a very distinguished musical career. More about these performers
Hal Ketchum
This is no ordinary artist bio... but then Hal Ketchum is no ordinary artist. First of all, he possesses, as noted by USA Today, "the most effervescent voice in country music" - but of course you already knew that.More to the point, when we joined Hal at the Curb Records office in Nashville last February, his new album had yet to be titled. In fact, it had yet to be finished. He hadn't even made final decisions on which songs to record. "Actually," he said,"we might cut a whole other ten and start all over." We laugh - it is absurd to talk about an album that's still in its early stages. Still, ...Post a Countdown Widget
