The New Voices Ensemble Theatre will present an unforgettable evening of moving solo performances and short plays written by the ensemble and other local playwrights. Theatre goers will experience a diverse collage of works that weave together autobiography, humor, passion, and drama that is sure to speak to the heart and soul of every audience member. "Sharing real stories is what this showcase is all about," said Isiah Anderson, Jr., the group's artistic director and director of all the pieces. "We could have staged more familiar pieces but we wanted to tell our stories. We wanted audiences to walk away changed and that meant putting everything on the line. We had to write pieces that were sometimes tough to deal with." Several plays are being featured, including the dramedy "School Counselor" by Tonya White, La'Chris Jordan's "The Ghosts on Cleveland Street," and "Tell Them" by Dr. Linda Beed, which re-enacts the last day of Carol Denise McNair, the youngest victim of the 1963 Sixteenth Street Baptist Church bombing in Birmingham, Alabama.
