Core exercises are often recommended to ease back pain and tone abdominal muscles. But what is the core, and how is it accessed? The answer is a lot more (and a lot more fun) than sit-ups. In fact, excessive abdominal exercises can cause imbalance in the core and actually lead to back pain. On the other hand, a strong, integrated, balanced and intelligent core will help just about everything in your body work more effectively -- youâll have better posture, better balance, healthier and more flexible joints, increased lung capacity, better coordination, more confidence, more optimism and more fun. After all, weâre talking about your core â" the center of your being. As such, the aim is deep strength and stability, but also a well of energy and an ability to remain fluid, flexible and balanced when life moves in unexpected directions. Moving from your core is about being true to your center and being able to act in accordance with your deepest intentions â" from a very literal, physical level on up. This workshop will teach you movements and exercises that strengthen your core and connect directly into your everyday movements and challenges. Weâll start with a clear anatomical understanding of what makes up the core and how it functions. Youâll learn to access and isolate specific muscles, especially those that tend to be underused. Then youâll learn how to turn on the core as a whole to create dynamic stability, and free up your limbs and outer muscles for more strength, grace and range of motion. Weâll mix detailed exercises with playful movements, imagery, asana, balance, elements of dance and marshal arts, and breathwork. Start the year by returning to your source and gaining tools for health and vibrancy! No experience necessary
