It's often said that a dog's mouth is cleaner than a human mouth. Whether or not this is true — define "clean" — there is one thing of which we can be certain: Just because your dog eats the junk food that you leave lying around doesn't mean that it wouldn't prefer something healthier than McDonald's french fries. (Unlike dogs, humans will eat anything.)

Enter Three Dog Bakery. This downtown operation, located steps from Pike Place Market, bakes healthy treats that contain no salt, sugar, chemicals or animal fat — "stuff you would feel good about eating yourself," says the menu. Here you'll find soft-baked bars, bones and cookies flavored with peanut butter and peppermint, biscuits made with vegetarian chicken, and even entire cakes (dogs have birthdays, too).

Everything is made fresh on the premises, and the bakers are more than happy to tell you what went into the making of every edible in the store. Needless to say, a dozen "Beagle Bagels" and a few toys and gifts from Three Dogs' small, but very cool collection of accessories, will make you a very popular biped with your four-legged friends.
