Description
KBCS Presents
Genres: Flamenco , Judeo-Spanish , Ladino
Description
Born in Jerusalem 31 years ago, Yasmin Levy was introduced to Ladino singing and culture from a very young age. Her late father, Isaac levy, was the leading figure in the world of research into and preservation of the Judeo-Spanish culture, dating back to the 15th century in Spain. Ladino is the collective term for the Judeo-Spanish languages spoken by the Jews of Spain: these languages infuse the original ancient Spanish with other languages including Arabic, Turkish, Greek, Slavic languages, Portuguese, French, Italian and Hebrew. In her deep, spiritual and moving style of singing, Yasmin preserves and revives the most beautiful songs from the Ladino/Judeo-Spanish heritage, mixing it with Andalusian Flamenco. Today, it remains one of the most moving and romantic musical traditions of all time.
