Woodland Park Zoo and the Seattle Aquarium are excited to announce this special teacher workshop series! We will investigate aquatic and terrestrial habitats and animals of Washington. At the Seattle Aquarium we will discover animals that call Puget Sound and the Pacific Ocean home. Through activities and observations of animals in the Aquarium, we will meet Washington wildlife as well as learn about local conservation issues and solutions. We will focus on the energy animals need to survive and how this energy is transported from plankton to whales. Workshop presenters will include Seattle Aquarium education, interpretation, conservation staff and biologists who work with the animals. At Woodland Park Zoo we will explore the fascinating animals of Washington’s diverse habitats, including sagebrush steppe, mountains, temperate forest, wetlands and urban areas. Through activities and observations of animals on zoo grounds, we will discover local wildlife, conservation issues, and opportunities for involving students in environmental stewardship. Workshop presenters will include Woodland Park Zoo education and conservation staff as well as zookeepers who work with native wildlife. Most appropriate for teachers of grades K-10. Clock hours (7 per day; 14 total) or credit (one quarter credit; must attend both days) will be available. Application due date: Monday, October 12, 2009.
