Event details: Reiki Clinic: Free for Veterans
Description
A Defense Department study of combat troops returning from Iraq found 1 in 6 soldiers and Marines acknowledged symptoms of severe depression and PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), and 6 in 10 of these same veterans were unlikely to seek help out of fear their commanders and fellow troops would treat them differently.
2 years ago, Eileen Dey, M.A., director and founder of the only Washington state licensed vocational school of Reiki, The Reiki Training Program, approached the Seattle Veteran’s Center to begin to offer Reiki classes and sessions to veterans who could benefit from the effects of this non-invasive and easy to learn method of stress-reduction and self-healing.
As a counselor and teacher, Eileen has been working with this technique for over a decade and has seen impressive results in the reduction of anxiety and depression when a client learns to work with Reiki, or ‘Universal Energy’. It is a self-empowering way to relax the body and mind that has been traumatized by fear.
As mentioned in the November 2008 issue of Seattle Magazine, Eileen is quoted as saying, “Reiki is like acupuncture without needles. Anyone can learn to channel energy to heal themselves”. A full length article on her work with veterans was featured in the Winter 2009 edition of Reiki Magazine.
In honor of the veterans, Eileen is offering free Reiki treatment sessions at East West Bookshop, 6500 Roosevelt Avenue NE, November 21, 1-4pm.
