More about Olympic Sculpture Park
Olympic Sculpture Park
City/neighborhood: Belltown Hours: 6 a.m.-9 p.m. daily Related info: Seattle Times Olympic Sculpture Park Guide Along with the Space Needle and the Rem Koolhaas-designed main branch of the Seattle Public Library, Seattle Art Museum's Olympic Sculpture Park is destined to become a Seattle icon. Even if this nine-acre park didn't boast a single piece of sculpture, it would be remarkable in the effortless way it links Seattle's downtown with its waterfront, via its ingenious layout of graduated layers, zig-zag paths and partially-covered bridges. Make no mistake, however: This is a sculpture park, and any of the pieces on display -- Alexander Calder's "Eagle," Richard Serra's "Wake" and Louise Bourgeois' "Father and Son" among them -- would be happily claimed by any other city in the world, with the express purpose of building a park around it. To have all these pieces in such proximity -- and in such a gorgeous setting -- makes the Olympic Sculpture Park, and Seattle, quite unique.By Geoff Carter NWsourcePost a Countdown Widget
