Description
Play Reading Group Plays are meant to be sharedâ€" to be spoken out loud and to be heard. That's exactly what we'll do: read great plays out loud together, and share our thoughts about them. No one reads enough plays -- it's a sad but reversible fact. Scripts can be intimidating. Fear not! Instructor will offer tips on how to get the form to give up the goods -- and facilitate discussion on the material. Class offers would-be writers and actors a chance to get more familiar with the formâ€"and audience members a peak behind the curtain. Work will include at least one play from this fall's professional theatre offerings. We'll have at least one opportunity to attend a performance of a play we've read. Field trips happen outside of normal class hours, and ticket costs are not covered by tuition. October 20 - December 1 Tuesdays 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. $195 (Tier I); $245 (Tier II) Tier level is based on household income. To register; www.freeholdtheatre.org or call us at (206)323-7499 Althea Hukari is a passionate and experienced teaching artist. She was Freehold's original Head of the Intro to Acting Series, and has worked regionally as an actor, director, and performance coach. Althea holds a BA from Oberlin College, and studied with Klauniada, Pasqualini-Smith, and at the U of WA's Professional Actors Training Program. Her 1998 solo show, My Own Private Masha, secured her an Artist Grant from the Seattle Arts Commission for a full length work. Her next play, The Orchard secured her an Oregon Literary Fellowship, a coveted spot in Mead Hunter's Portland Center Stage sponsored PlayGroup, the firs- ever Fresh Northwest New Work Award from Coho Theatre, and was featured in the 2009 Portland Fertile Ground Festival of New Work. Althea has been living, teaching, writing and directing plays in her home town of Hood River, OR for the last ten years and is excited to return to teach at Freehold and Cornish College for the Arts this fall.
