Blitz: Capitol Hill's New Arts Walk

Capitol Hill is launching Blitz - a new monthly arts walk showcasing the businesses and creative cultures that thrive on the Hill. Produced by the Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce (CHCC), the walk includes a range of arts including visual art and music, performance art and even culinary arts. Blitz will keep the neighborhood hopping from 5:00 - 8:00 pm next week and the event will continue on the second Thursday of each month.

“The Chamber is excited to be connecting people, arts organizations, and businesses in our culturally dynamic neighborhood,” said Chris Persons, President of the CHCC. “Blitz celebrates what makes Capitol Hill unique.”

Over 40 Capitol Hill businesses are signed up to participate in Blitz, including Hugo House, Ballard Fetherston Gallery, and Babeland (full list below) and the numbers keep climbing.

The arts walk isn’t new to Capitol Hill. Since 2006, Audrey McManus, Marketing Director of Babeland coordinated an art walk on Capitol Hill. The idea for Blitz came about when Audrey approached CHCC Arts & Entertainment Committee to help increase participation among businesses. As A&E’s new Co-chair, Ellen Forney jumped at the chance to revamp, rename, and re-launch the walk. After months of planning by core organizers Forney, McManus, and Akira Morita from Design Kompany, the art walk has been repackaged, and is ready for Thursday’s launch.

“We’re inviting everyone to come and experience Capitol Hill,” said Persons. “Whether you are shopping or just enjoying the culture, Blitz will be the place to be on the second Thursday of each month.”
