Hi everyone, What better way to start the New Year than with a sail to get out of town? One last chance to enjoy some freedom before having to go back to work on Monday! Let's meet at 11:30 AM so we can get off the dock by Noon and have plenty of time to get to Galveston. That should give everyone some time to sleep off the New Year's Eve celebrating... If you have some left over champagne, feel free to bring it so we can have our own toast to the New Year! We'll likely anchor at Offatt's Bayou where we can see the lights at Moody Gardens. For those that have not been to Offatt's Bayou before, it is the body of water in front of Moody Gardens and the pyramids. We will have the dinghy available to go ashore to visit Moody Gardens and eat at the restaurant if you like. Or, if there is interest, we can visit an ice house at the far end of the Bayou for a great greasy hamburger! Of course, there is always the option of just lounging in the cockpit and relaxing. If the weather dictates, we'll run the generator at night to keep the sleeping temperature comfortable. I'll have water and sodas available; bring lunch, dinner (unless you plan to eat ashore), breakfast, and lunch, since we should be back at the dock early afternoon on Saturday. Bring your favorite adult beverages if you like. There is a full galley with microwave, stove, oven, etc., but refrigerated space is limited. We can coordinate food ahead of time if anyone wants to. Watch the weather forecast and dress appropriately; don't forget the hats and a jacket! Pack lightly and don't bring hard suitcases; space is limited. Bring your own towels, sheets, pillows, etc. There are two heads with showers (and plenty of hot water!) on board; there will be no facilities available on land. Sleeping arrangements are: V-berth, double bed; and Salon, two singles or a double and single. When you RSVP, indicate which berth you want. First come, first served! (I have standing dibs on the Aft double berth - Captain's privilege!) Please only wear deck shoes or white-soled shoes! Black scuff marks are really hard to scrub off the deck. Directions to the boat and my phone number are posted in the Message Board. Here's a chance to experience a little of the cruising life and stretch your sailing experience in possibly less than perfect conditions! Come see what it's about, and experience some real sailing with the commercial shipping and barges in the Houston Ship Channel. We'll be using the radio, and I'll be happy to discuss charts or navigation with anyone who's interested. Please, if you sign up, plan to attend. Last minute cancellations are just as bad as no-shows. Cash only; sorry, no checks or credit cards. Contact me if you have questions. See you on the water! Eric
