Painting Landscapes from Photographs
January 6-8, 2010 (9 AM - 4 PM) — Even if you prefer painting landscapes in plein aire, at some point you are going to use photographs as a reference, perhaps for the shape of a tree, the light on a canyon wall or the perfect color of a field of flowers. This class will help students explore some of the shortcomings of photographs and how to translate the image in a photograph into information they can use in their paintings. The instructor will do a step-by-step demonstration, encouraging students to paint along with him and take a painting from start to finish. Throughout this fun and non-intimidating class, the fundamentals of good painting will be emphasized.
