Distance and Trail Rating: 5km - 10km 1+
Start Point Address / Driving Directions:
Walk Box located Historic Savage Mill, 8600 Foundry St., Savage, MD 20763. Enter Mill at the Rams Head Tavern Entrance. Walk Box located in the PAYMASTERS OFFICE which is located to the LEFT of the court-yard near Rams Head Tavern Entrance. Look for WALK BOX under the table. DRIVING DIRECTIONS: From I-95 , take exit 38 A, Route 32 East. Follow for approx. 1 mile to US Route 1 SOUTH Exit. At the end of the exit, turn RIGHT and follow Route 1 to Gorman Rd. Turn RIGHT and proceed to Foundry Street. Turn RIGHT, pass the truss bridge, make a LEFT onto Washington Street and a LEFT onto the first parking lot facing the Savage Mill. Additional information about Savage Mill can be found at http://www.savagemill.com. Mill hours are 10 AM to 6 PM (Sunday -11AM to 6PM). The Mill is closed on Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. The paymasters office should be open at 9 AM Event Description: Woods Trail: Part of this trail is along the Middle Patuxent River on natural surface paths with several moderate hills. Warning: there is poison ivy along some sections of the trail. The remainder of the trail is relatively flat on paved streets and sidewalks through residential areas of Savage. Patuxent River walks qualify for the Native American Culture because the rivers were major pathways for north and western Indians to come to the Chesapeake Bay for trade. Part of the trail is marked with wooded AVA markers. **Historic Note: There is a National Historic Site - the Bollman Truss Bridge on the walk. Walk is also part of the "Historic Civil War Tour" of Howard County and there is a plaque by the bridge. Savage Cemetery on trail. RATED 2. Residential Trail: On sidewalks, paved paths and a small section on the wooded paved trail. RATED 1+. -- Fee for IVV credit or non-IVV credit is $3.00. Children 12 and under walk for free (IVV-Credit included) courtesy of Freestate Happy Wanderers.
