Seattle to the Aleutians: An Epic Coastal Journey

In June 2007, Erin McKittrick and her husband, Hig, set out from their home in Seattle to make their way to the Aleutian Islands under their own power-walking, paddling, and skiing more than 4,000 miles along the Washington, British Columbia, and Alaska coastlines. Their hope was not only to experience firsthand the remarkable beauty of these coastal wildernesses, but to gain a better understanding of the interplay of factors affecting these Pacific ecosystems' long-term preservation. Tonight, Erin and Hig will give a presentation on their epic 13-month journey from Puget Sound to the Bering Sea. They'll take you on four seasons of adventure - paddling stormy coastlines, bushwhacking through forests, scrambling over mountain ridges, spooking grizzlies, skiing tundra valleys, and floating down glacial rivers. Learn what it took to plan a journey of this magnitude and how their many experiences shaped their lives.
