Andrew Holecek Weekend Program: The Luminous Bardo of Dharmata

      Sat January 12th: 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM
      Sun January 13th: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM

For the 5th year running, we welcome back the renowned author of such books as Preparing to Die: Practical Advice and Spiritual Wisdom from the Tibetan Buddhist Tradition, teacher, and authority on lucid dreaming, dream yoga, and meditation — Andrew Holecek!

If we are prepared, death is the crowning moment of life — our greatest opportunity for enlightenment. The karma that brought us into this life is exhausted, and the bad habits that will propel us into our next one have not yet formed. This gap (bardo) provides a golden opportunity for rapid spiritual progress.
The bardo of dharmata is where the famous peaceful and wrathful deities make their appearance, which are nothing more than archetypal aspects of our own mind. “Dharmata” means “suchness, reality,” and refers to the enlightened state. All of manifest reality arises out of this bardo, and returns to it. It is the womb and tomb of existence. If we are not prepared, the luminosity is blinding, and we black out because of the intensity of the light.

This weekend explores the energies of this bardo, showing how they also manifest with each thought and emotion. We will learn how to glimpse this bardo every night when we fall into dreamless sleep, and between each and every thought.

Join us for an enriching weekend of exploration of this significant topic.

Because of the subtle nature of this bardo, this weekend is more advanced. Some familiarity with the bardo teachings is recommended.

For study, Andrew recommends the following books (focusing especially on the chapters dealing with the Bardo of Dharmata):
      • Mind Beyond Death by Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche
      • Peaceful Death, Joyful Rebirth by Tulku Thondup
      • The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying by Sogyal Rinpoche

Andrew Holecek is an author, spiritual teacher, and humanitarian. As a long-time student of Buddhism, he frequently presents this tradition from a contemporary perspective — blending the ancient wisdom of the East with modern knowledge from the West. With decades of study under the guidance of Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche, Thrangu Rinpoche, and The Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche, Andrew is trained in all three vehicles (yanas) of Buddhism. His principal teacher was Trungpa Rinpoche.

Andrew is the author of Preparing to Die: Practical Advice and Spiritual Wisdom from the Tibetan Buddhist Perspective and Dream Yoga; Illuminating Your Life Through Lucid Dreaming and the Tibetan Yogas of Sleep. Other books include The Power and the Pain: Transforming Spiritual Hardship into Joy, and Meditation in the iGeneration: How to Meditate in a World of Speed and Stress. His work has appeared in the Shambhala Sun, Tricycle, Buddhadharma, Light of Consciousness, Utne Reader, Parabola, and other periodicals. More info at
