The business of independent motion picture production and distribution - a truly collaborative process - reaches its peak every year at the American Film Market. Over 8,000 industry leaders converge in Santa Monica for eight days of deal-making, screenings, seminars, red carpet premieres, networking and parties. Participants come from over 70 countries and include acquisition and development executives, agents, attorneys, directors, distributors, festival directors, financiers, film commissioners, producers, writers, the worlds press all those who provide services to the motion picture industry. Founded in 1981, the American Film Market (AFM) has grown steadily to become the premiere global marketplace where Hollywoods decision-makers and trendsetters all gather under one roof. Unlike a film festival, the AFM is a marketplace where production and distribution deals are closed. In just eight days, more than $800 million in deals will be sealed - on both completed films and those that havent started shooting yet - making AFM the must-attend industry event. AFM Exhibit space is open to motion picture and television companies as well as companies offering services to the film industry. The Independent Film & Television Alliance (IFTA or the Alliance) was established in 1980 as the American Film Marketing Association (AFMA). Its first members were a group of distributors and sales agents whose main goal was to expand the independent film business by creating a world-class trade show, the American Film Market (AFM). Today, the association has evolved into the trade association for the independent film and television industry worldwide, while the AFM concurrently has become the largest international film market in the world. Join us in 2009 for this exciting international event that brings together some of the worlds greatest and most interesting filmmakers. The venue could change.
