Santa Fe galleries come and go but for years Ernesto Mayans Gallery has maintained a quiet, steady presence on historic Canyon Road. It was founded in 1977 by Santa Fe writer Ernesto Mayans. The gallery is a charming, intimate place with a list of many fine artists. The work on exhibit relfects Mayans discerning taste and focuses primarily on paintings and works of paper. Although it is diverse, the art is unlikely to be flashing or cutting edge. There is an excellent selection of photography including works by Mexican photographer Manuel Alvarez Bravo and the always fascinating Graciela Iturbide. Some other gallery artists are John Connell, Kathleen McCloud, Joel Greene, David Barbero, Tania Mayans Garduno and Larry Joseph, who came late to painting but left his mark on the Santa Fe art scene.
