One of America’s greatest musical treasures, singer, pianist, songwriter, arranger and producer, Allen Toussaint is a New Orleans native who has been making hit records for over forty years. His massive influence on American music reaches deep into the idioms of rhythm and blues, pop, country, musical theater, blues and jazz and he played an essential role in developing the sound of New Orleans–one that eventually brought artists like Dr. John, the Band and the Rolling Stones to a world-wide audience. Inducted into the 1998 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Toussaint has collaborated and recorded with everyone from Elvis Costello (with whom he recorded The River in Reverse, a dedication to the rebuilding and return of New Orleans), the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Cyndi Lauper, Brad Mehldau, Madeline Peyroux and many more. Toussaint has received many honors and awards and will be inducted into the 2012 Blues Hall of Fame on May 9, 2012.
