500 YEARS OLD: How South America’s Oldest Spirits Are Carving A Path in Modern American Cocktail Culture

Peru’s grape distillate Pisco and Brazil’s sugarcane-based Cachaça have been part of their nations’ cultural fabric for centuries. Today they are rising stars in North America’s cocktail culture, and their connections to you are closer than you might imagine. Join Jared Sasso from Caravedo Pisco and Dragos Axinte from Novo Fogo Cachaça for stories and tastes of several spirits and cocktails from the world’s most colorful continent.   Jared Sasso | Director of Education and Sales | Caravedo Pisco | Cell: +1 646-363-1417 Jared Sasso is the Director of Education and Sales for Caravedo Pisco (formerly known as Pisco Porton). Jared currently resides in Albuquerque, New Mexico having moved from New York a year ago where he was managing the east coast for Caravedo Pisco. He has been with the company for 4 years having previously managed a Pisco Bar in NYC called Raymi. With over 12 years experience in the service industry as a bartender, wine captain, and beverage director, he was pursued by Caravedo Pisco (Pisco Porton at the time) to be an area manager for NY.  Within 2 years, Jared was managing the east coast and eventually was promoted to the position he holds now. Jared has been involved with Peruvian Pisco in some capacity for over 5 years and is extremely passionate about Peru’s national spirit and Peruvian culture.  Dragos Axinte |  CEO, Founder |  Novo Fogo Cachaça |  Cell: 425.985.8270 |  Morretes PR, Brazil  |  Issaquah WA, USA Dragos Axinte believes that nothing worthwhile comes easy. He was born and raised in a communist dictatorship (Romania) where adversity was his best friend, moved to the U.S. with a handbag and a smile, built a consumer product company (ColdHeat) that quintupled its market category in one year, kept the faith during the fourteen years needed convince the American government to let him stay, and then finally found home in the mountains of the Pacific Northwest. Today Dragos is the CEO and principal owner of a zero-waste, USDA organic certified, carbon-neutral cachaça distillery and sugarcane plantation in the Atlantic Rainforest of Southern Brazil’s coastal mountains, somewhere between the ocean and the sky. The business – named Novo Fogo – is a leading steward of the process of barrel aging cachaça and represents the golden standard in distilled spirits sustainability.
