Description
Acclaimed film editor and sound designer Walter Murch will present an illustrated lecture at the Rafael, in which he shares some of his thoughts and theories about the evolution of film as a storytelling medium. Murch's "Three Fathers of Cinema" are Edison, Flaubert and Beethoven, in his lively and provocative analysis of the narrative arts, drawing on literature and music as well as film. Murch will also describe his personal "detective" work restoring the first attempt at a synchronized sound film by Edison, made more than 30 years before the advent of talking pictures. Following the lecture, Walter Murch will participate in an onstage discussion about his work.
