Walking Event: Twin Oaks Valley

San Marcos has an outstanding city trail system. This walk explores the trails in an area called Twin Oak Valley. The city "DG trails" are 8' wide soft surface trails bordered by a pole fence. This route is about 70% DG trails and 30% residential sidewalks. The route goes along the Twin Oaks Valley golf course, where the trail is lined with arbor-like trees. It passes through areas that feel very 'countryside' with horse ranches and open fields. There're some residential ares connecting the trails. The 11K also visits the San Marcos cemetery. There are a few modest hills spaced along the route and two places where you cut across a field, which would be a challenge for strollers and impossible for wheelchairs. The 5K route is suitable for wheelchairs. Walk early in the heat of summer, otherwise this is a good route year round.
