Venue details: Silverman Gallery in San Francisco metro area
Description
Jessica Silverman
Founded in 2006, Silverman Gallery is located on 2295 Third St., four blocks south of the Mission Bay area and situated just beneath the newly opened Sundance Coffee. Silverman is a space on the edge of a revolution, as more and more artists and gallerists find sanctuary in this exclusive area at the edge of the bay.
Working within the framework of curation, Silverman explores the relationship between disciplines. Silverman is based on a concept that seeks to maintain a direct connection between the artist, venue and the exhibition. By not formulating our own rules and definitions, Silverman encourages the re-articulation of meaning as it is communicated over social, cultural and geographical distances. Silverman considers it crucial not only to present and promote the various languages of art, but also to provide a platform for organizing and documenting the artist's production and making it available to the public. The following programs, In the basement, Speak Up and Original Version are what make up Silverman Gallery.
In the basement is conceived as an irregular series of performances and presentations that present the work of artists and musicians who engage in the exploration of the acoustic realm and the relationship of sound and image. It is a format to present material and projects that encourage a direct and personal communication between artist/presenter and audience.
Speak Up is a series of exhibitions, talks and discussions based on an understanding of collaboration. Outside curators, artists, publishers and Silverman Gallery are motivated by the curiosity of new ideas and the opportunity to tap into different fields, such as science, music, architecture, art, dance, choreography, theater, film, politics, design, media, economics, journalism.
Original Version is dedicated to inviting artists who have not had a solo-exhibition in and have little or no connection to San Francisco for solo exhibitions. Through this Silverman encourages the re-articulation of meaning when communicated over social, cultural and geographical distances. Silverman Gallery is based on a concept that seeks to maintain a direct connection between the venue and the exhibition as well as a distinct interaction between the space and the art it houses.
