Event details: A Tribute to Bruce Conner at Paule Anglim Gallery
Description
With over 40 years of legendary work, Bruce Conner heroically left an alternative view of the last half of the 20th Century. His legendary films, assemblages, prints and drawings explore precepts of metaphor and history, physical and metaphysical, light and dark by means of a new consciousness. Born 1933 in McPherson, Kansas, Conner moved to San Francisco in 1957 where he became a pivotal figure in the Beat scene of poets, writers, artists and performers.
The gallery will present a small group of paintings and drawings, and screen two seminal Conner films: Looking for Mushrooms (1959-65) and Crossroads (1976) which uses government footage of the atom-bomb test in Bikini Atoll. Both films alter one's sense of time offering an experience close to conscious dreaming, heightened by musical sound tracks.
A reception for the artists will be held Thursday, December 4th from 5:00- 7:30 p.m.
