Description
From Official Website: What happens at Electric Works, stays at Electric Works. Play "2012" the 'one-armed bandit' by Enrique Chagoya at the opening reception on Thursday, May 7 from 6-8 PM at 130 8th Street in San Francisco. In collaboration with visual artist Enrique Chagoya, Electric Works is releasing an edition of eight fully functional slot machines, the latest release in their large-scale multiple series. The machine has undergone a complete artistic revision rendered by the artist and will be a fully functional 'one-armed bandit.' The theme of this work is 2012, the end-year of the ancient Mayan 5125 year calendar, a time of great portent and change. Replete with imagery that crosses the US-Mexican border, subjects in the machine's graphics include materialism's discontent, environmental catastrophe and generally, the end of the world. Winners of the grand jackpot become eligible to 'save the world.' and are treated to coins, designed by Chagoya and minted by Electric Works, bearing the slogan, 'Life's a Dream, Then You Wake Up.' In typical Chagoya fashion, good humor abounds along with the serious and poignant message of our challenging times. Other Chagoya multiples will also be on display.
