People planning to see the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit may wish to know that University of Chicago historian Norman Golb has an article out, entitled "Fact and Fiction in Current Exhibitions of the Dead Sea Scrolls – A Critical Notebook for Viewers." He goes through the current exhibits plaque by plaque, exposing a series of horribly erroneous and misleading statements contained in them. An appendix deals specifically with the San Diego exhibit (they are planning to intentionally minimize the significance of the past decade of research in a "virtual reality" film to be projected on a "giant screen" in their auditorium). The article can be downloaded from the University of Chicago Oriental Institute site at http://oi.uchicago.edu/research/projects/scr/ , and there's also a link to it on Jim West's biblical studies blog: http://drjimwest.wordpress.com/2007/06/08/norman-golbs-guide-for-dead-sea-scrolls-exhibit-attendees/ (click on the words "this essay by Norman Golb"). Golb's earlier editorial on this controversy appeared in The Forward, it can be read at http://www.forward.com/articles/take-claims-about-dead-sea-scrolls-with-a-grain-of/
