The Priestess of Punk recently roared back into the zeitgeist thanks to her National Book Award-winning 2010 memoir. In Just Kids, Smith delivers a poignant prose ode to two early and influential loves: photographer Robert Mapplethorpe and the burgeoning New York City arts scene. A singer, songwriter, poet, and visual artist, Smith is defined by the fearless poetic rage that propelled her seminal album Horses (bearing Mapplethorpe’s famous portrait) and mixed media artistry. Ever the prolific pop-culture icon, Smith will revisit excerpts from Just Kids and the poetry and music that inspired a generation.
