Special Presentation Overview
With billions of stimulus funding, the US government is encouraging national adoption of Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems. At least $19B will be going into payment to providers for adopting “meaningful use” of “interoperable Electronic health record (EHR) technology.” More is being directed into “Health Information Exchanges” to provide a means for EHRs to communicate. Through all this government spending, an infrastructure for storing and transmitting digital medical data will be created.

At the same time, entrepreneurs are developing amazingly accurate new medical sensor and diagnostic technologies that collect and communicate significant amounts of data. But how will that data be accessed by medical providers, and how should it be incorporated into the EHR infrastructure?

In addition, according to a report done by PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC) Health Industries Group, 76% of the more than 700 healthcare executives surveyed in June 2009 said that the information gathered in EHRs will be their organization's biggest asset in the next five years. But very few healthcare organizations are building systems and care delivery processes to effectively use the billions of gigabytes of data being collected.

Where are the most attractive opportunities for entrepreneurial businesses in this dynamic market? How can entrepreneurs create value with the explosion of technologies for medical information and the evolving generation, management, and use of electronic medical data?
