Mikey Beats is a second generation San Diego native. Raised between the beautiful hills of Bay Park and the surf culture driven town of Pacific Beach, Mikey Quickly found his niche in music and continues down that path to this day. His musical journey started at San Diego’s legendary all age venue Soma, where when Beats was 16 the owner Len Paul helped him stay out of trouble by giving him a job and insisting that he played music. Len decided to teach him everything he needed to know about music bands and the constantly evolving music industry. Swanky cocktail lounge for sophisticated urbanites done up in 1950s-style futurism so that it resembles a retro spaceship. Housed in a fantastic historic building on Market Street, with high archways, brick walls, and vaulted ceilings, the modernist chairs, tables and décor ensures a certain space age calm. Plasma TV screens line the walls and the cool and funky regulars sip the colourful cocktails concoctions that look somehow unearthly. Needless to say they taste fantastic: try the Appletini mixed with real apple juice or the promisingly rich Key Lime Pie, mixed with vodka, lime juice and healthy dollop of vanilla ice cream.
