Christian Esquevin Discusses Fashion Designer Adrian

The Director of the Coronado Public Library, Christian Esquevin, will be speaking to the Friends of the Library Board about his personal collection and recent book, 'Adrian: Silver Screen to Custom Label", on December 11, 2008, from 3:00 to 4:00 in Room LL430 of the SDSU Library. The event is free and open to all.

Adrian was the head costume designer at MGM movie studios during the 1930s. His designs were featured in films such as "The Wizard of Oz," "The Women," and "The Great Ziegfield." He was the creator of actress Joan Crawford’s signature outfits that featured shoulder pads, which later became a fashion trend. Adrian later left MGM and opened his own independent fashion house.

"Adrian: Silver Screen to Custom Label" highlights and showcases many of Adrian’s great costume and fashion designs from the 1920s through the 1950s. Not only are his timeless glamour gowns, period costumes, and amazing show-girl costumes shown from the movies, but also his impeccable suits and beautiful gowns from his private label. The ten years of Adrian Ltd. are summarized year-by-year, and his life with Janet Gaynor and his taste for decorating and art are described.
