Hello regular Monday-nighters and new running buddies! For the winter months we're running a low-traffic and well-lit route through Balboa Park. As always, we encourage runners of all levels to come out and join us for 3.4 miles, 5.0 miles, or 6.5 miles followed by an ab-tastic core workout! Meeting details: We will Meetup at 6:00 pm in front of the SD Hall of Champions (off Presidents Way). We'll head out on the run no later than 6:15 pm. Map of the loops: http://www.mapmyrun.com/route/us/ca/san%20diego/326125530669413872 Description of the run: The first 3.1... The first part of the run is a 3.1 mile course through Balboa Park. (See map link above.) We run from Hall of Champions past the Organ Pavillion to the rotary. Then turn RIGHT to run east on the Prado. Turn LEFT to head North on Zoo Drive past the World Famous San Diego Zoo. Turn RIGHT onto Park Blvd. Follow Park south until you can see the pedestrian bridge and fountain. Just before the bridge there is a walkway that connects Park to Prado. Turn RIGHT onto that walkway. Run along Prado, past the rotary, over the bridge, to Balboa Drive (at the stop sign just before you hit 6th ave). From that intersection, cross the street and turn LEFT to head south on the pedestrian walkway. At the end of the walkway, take the first RIGHT at Juniper. First RIGHT at 6th. First RIGHT on Laurel / Prado to head back into the park... If you want to end at 3.4... Run to the rotary, and turn RIGHT to return to the starting area / Hall of Champions. (This last leg is approximately 0.3 miles, and will put you at 3.4 total for the evening) For those looking for a longer route, keep running past the rotary and... For a 5.0 mile run... Run the Zoo Drive / Park Blvd portion, then turn LEFT at the rotary to finish your run. For a 6.5 mile run... Run the entire course twice... So, run with the 5-milers along Zoo Drive and Park Blvd, and KEEP GOING toward Balboa Drive. Run that portion of the route a second time, returning to the starting point by turning RIGHT at the rotary when you have finished that last loop of the run. And, when everyone is finished we'll do a core workout (usually 5-7 exercises / 10 minutes) to make sure we all have 6-pack abs in time for the holidays!
