If you are the LEAST BIT CURIOUS about square dancing, this is the night for you! Our caller, Bill Wright (the best teacher, with the best voice, in all of square dancing) will start our spring series of lessons. He, and the other members of Hermann Sons Square Dance Club, will guide you through some of the beginning moves, explain the history of the dance and you'll experience why hundreds of thousands of people around the world participate in square dancing as often as they possibly can. Dress casually and comfortably, with shoes that are low-heeled, smooth-soled (they don't grip the floor) and that stay on your feet. High heels and flip-flops just won't work, and barefoot is not recommended. Many of the ladies like to wear prairie skirts, but slacks are OK, too. The gents tend to wear long-sleeved shirts and business-casual slacks. You can wear blue jeans, too, if you want to. Children are welcome, although we find that anyone younger than 10 can get a little confused and frustrated. The last thing we want to do is turn a youngster off of dancing, so please use your best judgment and we'll support your decision. Children should always have an adult as a partner, though. Speaking of partners--you won't need one for this night, nor for the lessons. During our regular dances, there is plenty of opportunity in our club for someone without a partner to dance all night if they want to. This Open House will be a party, but you'll learn a lot too. There is NO CHARGE for this evening. If you need more information, feel free to give me a call. I'm the organizer of the Meetup group for the San Antonio Contra Dancers, too, and my "dance network" in general is expanding every day, so if I don't have the answer to your question, I can certainly find it out. Square dancing is terrific low-impact exercise in a delightful social environment. Come give it a try! Lissa Bengtson 210-867-0692
