The Welfare & Waring Ride. This is a re-run of MichaelÃÂ's Beginner Ride #2 (80 miles about 3.0 hours including breaks)... why you may ask; so any riders that were not able to make the first run of this ride, or rides #3, 4 & 5, can join us on a short ride before ride #6. If you rode the first time then come and ride again! Start time: 9:00 am (please arrive 10 minutes prior to ensure you hear the ride brief) Meet up location: NW Military Hwy and Loop 1604 in Academy shopping center parking lot by the NW Military entrance This is the 2nd in a series of 8 rides designed to provide new riders progressively more public road experience. NO FREEWAY, we use the frontage roads. This is a medium to slow pace ride. I believe this is a ride most beginners that have completed a rider training course and 100 miles of public road riding should feel very comfortable on. This is a short ride and we shall take breaks but no gas stops are planned; please gas up ahead of the ride. This ride will probably NOT be repeated before March. - Meet up at NW Military Hwy and Loop 1604 in Academy shopping center parking lot by the NW Military entrance. - We take the slow and straight frontage road along I10 to Boerne where we will stop in the square for a 5 min break, leg stretch & restrooms. Approximately 35-45 minutes from the start of our ride. - North out of Boerne and continue along the I10 frontage road to the Waring-Welfare Road, a gentle slow paced twisting road. - We will stop in Waring by the Post Office & General Store for a 10 minute leg stretch break, approximately 25 minutes since leaving Boerne. The store is usually open and sells refreshments. - Retrace our path out of Waring to Cravey Road and then onto Marquardt Road... these are very slow gently curving scenic roads through open farmland. These are well-paved roads however there are a couple of cattle grids that do not impact a motorcyclist or require any special skill to traverse, good practice. There is some open farmland and warning signs say there could be loose cattle etc., I have never seen any but as lead rider I shall be on the lookout and will stop and wait if any animals are near the road how fun! - We join RR-1376 (the Siterdale Road), which is wide and mainly straight, back to Boerne where we will again stop in the square for a 5 min break, leg stretch & restrooms. Approximately 40 minutes since leaving Waring. - From Boerne we take the River Road along 46 to Ammann Rd (up down & slow) then Blanco Road back to within a few miles along 1604 from the start of our ride. * Riders of all skill levels are welcome but I shall lead and pace for beginner level riders.
